Toyota RAV4

Over time, starting off as a Sport-Cute, the Toyota RAV4 has grown into the small-SUV niche originally occupied by the Toyota Highlander. The RAV4 features decent styling, plenty of room and versatility, power to spare, and great gas mileage.

The RAV4 comes in two engine configurations; four-cylinder and V6 and four-wheel drive is optional. The V6 3.5 liter engine belts out 269 hp, 246 lb-ft of torque, and can haul 3,500 pounds with towing modifications. With the V-6 engine, RAV4 has better acceleration than just one or two sports sedans and yet gets 22/29 mpg. It handles like a car, nimble and not top-heavy. The interior is decent. The RAV4 is one car that you can’t complain much about. Now you know why it’s worth the money even though it might be bit expensive.

“The RAV4’s combination of compact size, plentiful and practical interior space, excellent powertrains, solid and substantial feel, and fine road manners makes for a sensible real-world SUV. The fact that pricing starts at barely over $20 grand is just icing on the cake.” - Car and Driver

“The RAV4 is among the most versatile compact crossover-type SUVs.” - Truck Trend

“It’s very much in tune with what buyers now expect from any new utility. That is the biggest possible versatility in the smallest, most efficient package possible.” - Motor Week

“It should have been called the RAV4 XXL or the RAV5, something to let people know that Toyota’s entry-level sport-utility vehicle has grown up — in a big way.” - Chicago Tribune

“The ride is settled; it’s quieter and more comfortable inside; it’s easier to get in and out; it’s still economical; it’s more carlike behind the wheel.” - The Car Connection

If you like the RAV 4, I would check out the Tiguan. It really excels beyond the competition in overall performace and build quality. In true VW fashion, the Tiguan drives more like a compact than an SUV. It’s responsive, very stable around turns, and incredibly smooth. It’s available in both an automatic or 6-speed manual transmission and gets 25 hwy MPG, which places it ahead of the Equinox. It comes standard with a turbocharged 200hp engine and is available with 4Motion 4 wheel drive and has a carefree maintenance program.
